Description
English: Medicine box. The medicine box is wooden with a brass handle at the top. There are metal hooks at each side that clip the lid to the main body of the box. There is a lock with a key inserted at the front. The hinges of the box are delicate. The underside of the box is lined with yellow velvet. The box contains 15 bottles- two blue glass bottles, each with cork and blue glass stopper and the word "POISON" embossed on top; six glass bottles with removable glass stoppers; and seven labelled glass bottles with contents and unremovable stoppers. These mostly date from 1875 up to 1900, At the front of the box is a removable wooden compartment which contains cotton wool, scissors, and tweezers. Underneath the compartment are packets of gauze and two glass vials. Whitall, Tatum and Co was an American company that mass-produced special-order prescription bottles for hundreds of pharmacies, embossed with their names and addresses and also marked "W.T. and Co." on the base.
