Description |
English: At the start of the 20th century, Vashon Island was an area of fruit, vegetable and poultry farms, with small settlements around the shore. Some residents of Seattle, Tacoma and other nearby cities built homes on the island. Steamboats carried residents, visitors and supplies between Vashon Island and the mainland.
This photo, probably taken around 1900, shows a house on Vashon Island. The donor of the photograph identified the house as the Bowman residence. Long-time Vashon Island residents have identified it as the Steinforth home, built at Lisabeula around 1905. Based on research to date, it is unclear whether the Bowman and Steinforth homes are one and the same building.
