Summary
[edit]DescriptionBowling (Caledonian Railway) station - geograph.org.uk - 960282.jpg |
English: Bowling (Caledonian Railway) station A section between Bowling and Dumbuck of the former Caledonian Railway's Riverside line from Glasgow Central Low Level to Dumbarton is now part of National Cycle Route 7 (Glasgow to Loch Lomond); an access path rises beyond the barriers at the far end of the building. Bowling is still served by electric trains on the former North British Railway route but until 1951 the village had this second station in Scott Avenue. The station was an island platform and the cycleway runs along the north side of the remains of this. The rails were at the level of the string course above the windows and doors and, as with some other stations on the line, the entrance and booking office were beneath the line, presumably with steps up to the platform. Behind the station until about the First World War period there was a quarry and it believed that the second bay from the far end, with the large square grey door, may have been a bridge over a road access. The station building is today used as garages and storerooms. |
