English: Bowl, stoneware with celadon glaze, plain celadon without pattern, good typical colour of the best period. in undamaged condition. used as a Buddhists alms bowl. characteristic kiln moisture bubbles on inside - some filing to smooth base, otherwise in original condition. Bowl, stoneware. KORYO. Celadon glaze, plain but good typical colour of that period. (gallery card) This exceptional, plain stoneware bowl with uniform celadon glaze has some bubbles formed due to the intensity of the firing when moisture remains in the clay. Buddhist monks usually carried a begging bowl like this to accept food on their mendicant journey. Their other possessions would consist of a frock, a staff and a kundika flask.(from Korean Gallery label copy) |
