Description |
English: Bowl, narrow rim, deep cavetto, plain maker's comment- "Comments at P99 apply here. The four ownership initials are unusual." Peter Hayward, database manager Pewter Society England maker's comment on P99- "The more-rounded bouge distinguishes these early plain-rim plates and dishes from the more-common 18th century ones. However, your dating is optimistic. We know from some bearing a maker's mark that this style was still being made up to about 1650, and there is nothing about this one to suggest a particularly early date. Dutch examples exist, but this is almost certainly English because of the hammered bouge and rim." maker's comment on P99- "The more-rounded bouge distinguishes these early plain-rim plates and dishes from the more-common 18th century ones.
