Title
Bow brooch drawing
Description
English: Copper alloy brooch with Colchester derivative rear hook type spring attachment. Missing spring, pin; damaged wings, hook, foot and catchplate. The stub of the hook is visible at the top of the bow. Small wings project from the broad flat backed bow. The bow has a parallel sided upper half, with moulded ribs (broad central, alternating narrow and broad to the sides). The lower bow is narrower, D-section and tapers to a damaged point. Surviving length 36mm, surviving width 16mm. An unusual type for a rear hook, the bow owing much to the Aucissa/Hod Hill tradition. An example from Sibton, Suffolk also has a division between a reeded upper bow and plain lower but less markedly so.
