Title
bow brooch
Description
English: A copper-alloy Roman bow brooch fragment. It is the upper part of a Colchester derivative brooch, with a semi-circular wing case and the lower part of the double lug. The object is incomplete due to old breaks. There is a ridge running down the bow, the extension of the upper lug now missing, and moulded decoration on the side of the one wing that survives. The bow is D-shaped and flat-backed, but the lower part with the catchplate is missing. The brooch fragment measures 12.10mm in width across the wings, 16.85mm in surviving length, and weighs 1.71g.
