English:

Copper alloy

Brooch. Hinged Bow and Fantail Brooch fragment. Cast tubular wings enclosing an axis bar retaining the stub of a hinged pin. A D-section bow with curvilinear moulding to its sides expands to meet the full length of the wings, and then tapers to a denticulated collar, below which the stub of a triangular plate protrudes; the lower part of brooch is lost. Suggested date: early Roman, 80-150.

Length: 23.0mm, Width: 20.0mm, Thickness (crest of bow): 7.8mm, Weight: 8.18gms.
