English: Bow, violin, pernambuco, round slightly concave stick. Silver coated thread lapping with black leather thumb grip. Octagonal section above moveable ebony frog. Silver frog lining, no back plate on frog or mother of pearl eyes, mother of pearl slide. Silver ferrule connecting white horse hair. One piece silver button which has gun metal screw shaft, silver tip and end and hatchet head. Pinning on tip facing (see diagram in file), interesting object 1 violin bow Arthur Copley for William E Hill and Sons, London, England, pre 1940 pernambuco, ebony, silver, mother-of-pearl, length 750 mm, weight 59.4 g stamped ‘HILL’ above frog, ‘HILL and CO LONDON’, ‘K’ under frog,‘1’ on tip 1998.60.394 Arthur Copley (b 1903) joined Hills in 1917 and finished making bows in 1959. |
