Bourré (Loir-et-Cher) La maison de Gilbert Cesbron. Gilbert Cesbron (1913-1979) était un écrivain français d'inspiration catholique. Certains de ses livres furent de véritables succès populaires : "Notre prison est un royaume" (1948), "Les saints vont en enfer" (1952), "Il est minuit, docteur Schweitzer" (1952), "Chiens perdus sans collier" (1954), "C’est Mozart qu’on assassine" (1966). Sa sincérité et son empathie pour les classes défavorisées rendent cet écrivain catholique attachant.
Dans ce livre, Gilbert Cesbron fait vivre et agir des hommes et des femmes qui se penchent avec une vocation profonde sur de pauvres gosses. L'histoire se déroule en région parisienne dans les années 50. On découvre à travers les yeux du jeune Marc la vie de jeunes qui sont confrontés à la rue, au poste de police, au tribunal, aux hospices et à un centre d'éducation spécialisé.
« – En fin de compte, tous ces enfants menteurs, fugueurs, voleurs ou mêmes assassins ont, à Terneray, des conditions de vie beaucoup plus agréables que les enfants normaux. C’est une prime à la délinquance. – Vous avez raison, dit M. Lamy : ils ont tout ! Tout sauf une petite chose essentielle. Au fond de la mer aussi, il paraît qu’il existe tout ce qu’il faut pour que nous puissions y subsister. il n’y manque que l’air, malheureusement ! – Et que leur manque-t-il d’essentiel à Terneray ? – A Terneray et, par définition, dans tous nos centres : l’amour de leur famille. – Vous voulez dire les coups, l’humiliation, l’abandon, les sévices ? – Oui, reprit M. Lamy avec une sorte de tendresse, tout cela dont ils ne peuvent pas savoir que, justement, ce n’est pas le lot de toutes les familles… Tout cela qui, par contraste, fait un éblouissement de joie de la moindre attention, d’un regard plus doux, d’un sourire. L’amour… On peut les priver de n’importe quoi, ajouta-t-il en apercevant la grille d’entrée.
