Summary
[edit]DescriptionBounds Green Underground Station (Piccadilly Line) - 52809895795.jpg |
English: Bounds Green Underground Station, 6 April 2023. The station was opened in September 1932, on the 1932-33 extension of the Piccadilly Line from Finsbury Park to Cockfosters.
Since Charles Holden, consultant architect to the Underground Electric Railways of London, had a huge amount of work on his hands with designing stations for the extension, he brought in another consultant architect, Charles Holloway James, to design Bounds Green in a similar European Moderne style to Holden’s own stations. The resultant ‘Holdenesque’ station showed a variation on Holden’s ‘cube’ style in that it consisted of an octagonal ticket hall adjoining a large ventilation tower which also served to ‘announce’ the station. Attached to the station are complimentary shops. It is a Grade II listed building. Pictured is the concourse/ticket hall. |
