Summary

[edit]
Description There aren't many towns and cities in Mauritania. Because of this, there are large distances between them. This makes it expensive to go by taxi. There's no railway (except the industrial one we'd be taking later) so most people travel around the country in minibuses. They seem to be a big business in the cities. We spent half a day in this one to get to Atar. Along the way we hit the first of many checkpoints guarded by soldiers. They check foreigners for their details, name and passport number, where they are travelling to. In order to save time, it's best to photocopy a sheet with all this information and just hand it to them. We went through about 30 while we were in the country.
