Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Bottemannehuis is a mansion on the old canal of Alkmaar, located at 221 Oudegracht. Founded in 1775 by the stonemason Willem Bekker (1747-1817), the property is acquired by Bottemanne family from the late eighteenth century. The family business moved its warehouses and stables on the canal, near the property (Oudegracht 227). The mansion is a typical example of patrician architecture of XVIIIe century, with red brick façade topped with a richly carved cornice, stucco sculptures, large Empire style windows. The property suffers vandalism during the protests 1970. The facades and stucco ornaments were restored in the 1990s (Rijksmonument 7339).
