• Ralph le Boteler (c.1074 - c.1140) of Oversley, Shropshire, called "Radulphus Pincerna de Legrecestria" was the butler to Robert, Earl of Leicester. He settled at Oversley, County Warwick during the reign of Henry I. He erected a strong castle there and a mile distant founded a monastery for Benedictine monks (1140);

        • Maurice le Boteler, his son and heir (c.1185 - 1237?), living 1245
          • Ralph le Boteler, his son and heir (c.1220 - 1281), who married Maud/Matilda Pantulf, daughter and heiress of William Pantulf of Wem
            • William le Boteler, of Wem and Oversley, son and heir (1245 - 1283), who married Angharad ap Madoc
              • John le Boteler, eldest son and heir (1266 - 1287), who married Eleanor de Beauchamp, daughter of Walter de Beauchamp of Alcester, Warks, Steward of the King's Household. Died without issue;
                • Gawine le Boteler (1270 - 1289/90) (brother and heir), married Alice de Montgomeri. Died without issue;
                  • William le Boteler (1274 - 1334) (brother and heir), 1st Baron Boteler of Wemme (created 1308), married firstly a certain Beatrice;
                    • William le Boteler (1298-1361) 2nd Baron Boteler, of Wemme, son by first wife Beatrice; married Margaret FitzAlan, daughter of Robert FitzAlan, Earl of Arundel;
                      • William le Boteler (1295 - 1369) 3rd Baron Boteler of Wemme , son, married a certain Elizabeth;
                        • Elizabeth le Boteler, daughter and heiress, suo jure 4th Baroness Boteler of Wemme, married firstly Robert de Ferrers, 1st Baron Boteler (d.1380/1) (cr.1375), a younger son of Robert Ferrers, 2nd Baron Ferrers by his wife Agnes de Bohun, a daughter of Humphrey de Bohun, Earl of Hereford; She was predeceased by her son and heir apparent Robert Ferrers (d.1369) who left two daughters, amongst whom both baronies (maternal and paternal) became abeyant.
