Mossambik: in den Wäldern bei 25-Miles-Station, im Beira-Hinter- lande, c. 60 m ü. M. (R. Schlechter n. 12243. — Blühend im April 1898). Habituell ähnelt die vorliegende Art eher einem Cyna?ichum als den anderen Arten der Gattung. Die Struktur der Korona und der Antheren verweisen sie ent- schieden in die Gattung Marsdenia.

Die Gattung Fockea ist eine typisch afrikanische Gattung, die soweit bisher bekannt, auf die südliche Hälfte des Kontinentes beschränkt zu sein scheint. Es sind etwa 8 Arten beschrieben worden, von denen allerdings einige zweifelhaft scheinen. So dürfte z. B. F. Schinxii N. E. Br. wohl kaum von F. multiflora K. Sch. zu trennen sein. Offenbar lieben sämtliche Arten trockene Steppengebiete oder felsige Gegenden, wo sie als echte Xerophyten leben können. Einige Arten, wie F. sessüiflora Schltr., F. angustifolia K. Sch., F. Lugardi N. E. Br. und die hier beschriebene F. dammarana Schltr. treten nur als kleine, höch- stens fußhohe Stauden auf, die in jedem Jahre aus der knolligen Wurzel
