ang, die Blattstiele 3—5 mm lang, die Spreite ist5—9 cm lang und 2—4 cm breit. Frucht 8—10 cm breit, meist ein wenig breiter alslioch, Perikarp ca. 3,5 mm dick, holzig, von lockerem Gefüge. Samen von einer dickenSchicht von Schleimhaaren umgeben, durch gegenseitigen Druck polygonal abgeplattet,2,7—3 cm lang und ca. i,5 cm dick; das glasige Endosperm mißt 1,7—i,8 cm in derLänge, 8—9 mm in der Dicke. Deutsch-Ostafrika: Pangani-Niederung bei Mnyuzi, in feuchtgründi-gem, lichtem Pori (Busse n. 2266, im April mit reifen Fr.). Die großen Früchte dieser Art sind durch die nie fehlenden, netzartig angeord-neten Korkwucherungen des Perikarps ausgezeichnet; sie gelten als eßbar, und zwarsind sie von den eßbaren Strychnos-Fmohien des Küstenlandes am meisten geschätzt. S. melonicarpa gehört zur engeren Verwandtschaft von S. Behrensiana, näliertsich aber auch der S. Unguacha A. Ricli. ^ A h 1) i 1 du n g der Fruclit auf Fig. 2 B. 102 Beiliiigc zur Flora von Afrika.
