В коллекции представлены фотографии различной тематики. В ней отображены достижения Бразилии и бразильцев в XIX веке, в нее также включены многочисленные фотографии из Европы, Африки и Северной Америки. Ботанический сад в Рио-де-Жанейро был основан в 1808 году королем Португалии Иоанном VI и открыт для посещений в 1822 году. Он и по сей день остается одним из самых больших тропических садов в мире; в коллекции сада — более 7000 тропических растений. Одна из наиболее примечательных частей сада — Проспект королевских пальм — изображена на данной фотографии, сделанной Рафаэлем Кастро-и-Ордоньес во время работы Научной комиссии по изучению тихоокеанского региона.

Cette collection couvre une vaste gamme de sujets. Elle documente les réalisations du Brésil et du peuple brésilien au 19e siècle, et comprend également de nombreuses photographies d'Europe, d'Afrique et d'Amérique du nord. Le Jardin botanique de Rio de Janeiro a été créé en 1808 par le roi Jean VI du Portugal et ouvert au public en 1822. Il reste l'un des plus grands jardins tropicaux au monde, rassemblant plus de 7 000 espèces de plantes tropicales. L'une des caractéristiques les plus frappantes du jardin est l'avenue des palmiers royaux, photographiée ici par Rafael Castro y Ordoñez dans le cadre de la Commission scientifique du Pacifique.

The collection covers a wide variety of subjects. It documents the achievements of Brazil and Brazilians in the 19th century and also includes many photographs of Europe, Africa, and North America. The Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro was founded in 1808 by King John VI of Portugal and opened to the public in 1822. It remains one of the world’s greatest tropical gardens, boasting a collection of more than 7,000 species of tropical plants. One of the garden’s most striking features is the avenue of royal palms, shown here as photographed by Rafael Castro y Ordonez as part of the Scientific Commission of the Pacific.

O Jardim Botânico do Rio de Janeiro foi fundado em 1808 pelo rei D. João VI, de Portugal, e aberto ao público em 1822. Permanece como um dos maiores jardins tropicais do mundo, ostentando uma coleção de mais de 7 mil espécies de plantas tropicais. Umas das características mais marcantes do jardim é a avenida das palmeiras reais, mostrada aqui tal como foi fotografada por Rafael Castro y Ordonez, como parte da Comissão Científica do Pacífico.
