Description
English: Borrow dyke near Wivenhoe When the river wall was constructed, clay and silt were dug from the marsh on the landward side. The result is a linear ditch, usually water-filled, called a borrow dyke. The combination of river wall and dyke make an extremely valuable wildlife habitat.
