Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Border marker on Puig Pedrós (altitude 435m), near the boundary between the communes of Montalba-le-Château and Ille-sur-Têt (Pyrénées-Orientales, France). It is one of the several boundary stones of this type in this region, which marked a border between the kingdom of France and the kingdom of Aragon (of which Catalonia was a part). The border was established by the Treaty of Corbeil in 1258. This border became obsolete in 1659, following the Treaty of the Pyrenees between France and Spain. Under this treaty, the border was moved further south to its current location along the Pyrenees. In the distance: the Canigou massif.
