Есенин

Первоначально художник предложил купить свою работу самому поэту, но тот отказался; см. об этом письмо Григорьева к Е. И. Замятину от 23 августа 1924 г. («Всё тот же, русский и ничей…». С. 168). Представленный в 1924 г. на нью-йоркской выставке Григорьева, портрет Есенина оказался затем в частном собрании. Имя коллекционера фигурирует в письме Д. Д. Бурлюка к С. А. Толстой-Есениной (до 19 октября 1929 г.): «Портрет С. А. Есенина <…> куплен миллионером в Нью-Йорке — Mr. Adolf Lewisohn…» (Сергей Есенин в стихах и жизни: Письма. Документы. М., 1995. С. 465). Где находится портрет в настоящее время, неизвестно.
