Summary
[edit]DescriptionBookShopNewOrleansVachon.jpg |
English: New Orleans, Louisiana, 1943. "De Forest Book Shop". Customers peruse books set up on sidewalk in front of store. Signs read "De Forest Book Shop" and "4000 books 5¢".
Notes: The DeForest Book Shop was prominent regionally in the 1930s and 1940s, run by George DeForest, his wife, and R.L. Hood. It was at 612 Commercial Place on the ground floor of the Balter Building (since demolished). They specialized in used books, advertised in newspapers regionally, buying collections in bulk - including documents from old plantation houses that would later be acquired by university libraries and archives. |
