Description
English: The Bonnie Earl of Moray, anonymous "vendetta portrait" of the murdered James Stewart, 2nd Earl of Moray, 1592. Moray was murdered on 7 February. Since, according to the Julian calendar, the new year in Scotland, as in the rest of medieval Europe, began on 25 March, the portrait bears the date 7 February 1591 (Old Style).
