Beitr. stes Glied jener Gebirgskette gelten müsse, die — vom Kuenlin über Himalaja, Elburs, Kaukasus, Taurus, Dinariden, Alpen und Pyrenäen — heute die Heimat der alpinen Vogelwelt sei und in ihrem Verlauf von O nach W ein entsprechend der Entfernung vom zentralasiatischen Ent- wicklungsherd sinkendes Gefälle solcher alpiner Formen zeige. Das südspanische Hochgebirge besitzt also als westlichster Pfeiler die- ses riesigen eurasiatischen Areales alpiner Vogelformen für den Ornitho- geographen erhöhtes Interesse, und schon deshalb sollte man meinen, daß das Brutvorkommen jener 4 oben erwähnten Vogelarten eindeutig und recht genau untersucht ist. Dem ist aber nicht so. Lediglich die Alpen- braunelle brütet mit Sicherheit heute in der Sierra Nevada und zwar min- destens ebenso häufig wie im übrigen ausgedehnten Areal der Art. Die 3 anderen Arten aber kommen — mindestens gegenwärtig — sehr wahr- scheinlich nicht in der Sierra Nevada vor. Bei der tiergeographischen Be- deutung dieser alpinen Elemente ist es sehr wichtig, alle Umstände kri- tisch zu prüfen, die für oder gegen ein Brutvorkommen in der Sierra Ne- vada sprechen: 1. Anthus sp. spinoletta: Weder Saunders (1871) noch Lynes (1912) erwähnen A. spinoletta für die Sierra Nevada, und selbst Jourdain (1937, p. 111/112) führt kein Brutvorkommen dieser Art für ganz Südspanien an.
