[edit]DescriptionBone emergency gate in Chesnut Road.jpg |
English: 23 November 2011. The emergency gate in Chesnut Road N17 near the junction with Rycroft Way.
We walked to Tottenham High Road to buy a newspaper and some flowers for a friend's birthday. I went to check if Highways staff had replaced the padlock on this safety gate. Two emergency gates - one at either end - prevent vehicles from using the middle pedestrian section of Chesnut Road. Since August some safety conscious residents had improvised with bits of wood and plastic. Although this is the first time I've seen bone used. Bone is a ubiquitous material in hunter-gatherer societies even when other tool materials were not scarce or unavailable. Any portion of animal or fish skeletons could potentially be utilized; however, antlers and long bones provide some of the best working material. Long bone fragments can be shaped, by scraping against an abrasive stone, into such items as arrow and spear points, needles, awls and fish hooks." (Source) |
