Summary
[edit]DescriptionBomb shelter (a closer look), Swindon - geograph.org.uk - 531695.jpg |
English: Bomb shelter (a closer look), Swindon Still looking in remarkably good condition given its original purpose as a WWII bomb shelter. The owner said it was to be shared by the occupiers of this and two other neighbouring houses. I had thought this to be an Anderson shelter but there seems to be some doubt as those were made from corrugated iron. It now seems more likely to be a Stanton shelter, which were more often used on airfields. See http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~rwbarnes/defence/silloth.htm found by Alan Fryer. Image taken with the permission of the householder. 4 figure grid reference only to maintain privacy. |
