Boletus patrioticus T.J. Baroni, Bessette & Roody Image location: Franklin Co., Virginia, USA In grass a few yards away from a tree line of mostly oak, growing in scattered groups and clusters. The photographs will probably be more telling about the appearance than my shaky description. These have brilliantly colored stems and sometimes the caps that range from rosey red to purple tones. The cap flesh seemed to stain pink, the pore surface and tubes also stained a blue/black, it appeared to also stain alittle bluish in the inner stem area, but this was extremely light. Maybe these are B. inedulis? Recognized by sight: Red, white and blue staining context.
