Information sur un panneau touristique du village, sans doute de l'Institut du Patrimoine Wallon : Le tabac originaire de l'Amérique du Sud où elle croît à l'état sauvage, appartient à la famille des solanacées, comme la tomate ou la pomme de terre. Cette plante était cultivée pour ses feuilles et fumée par les autochtones. Le tabac est cultivée dans la vallée de la Semois dès le XVIe siècle pour la consommation privée. Les plantes sont d'abord utilisées comme plantes décoratives puis médicinales, enfin, le tabac est chiqué ou fumé. Les habitants de la contrée se rendent comptent de la valeur marchande du tabac , ils vont donc l'ajouter aux différentes cultures des produits. Mais , dès la moitié du XVIIIe siècle, une redevance limite la production à la consommation personnelle. Peu après 1850, Joseph Pierret, instituteur à Mouzaive (12 Km de Bohan), réintroduit la culture ; il plante à titre expérimental du tabac dans son jardin, qui poussa aisément .
