Summary
[edit]DescriptionBoer War memorial - geograph.org.uk - 1131704.jpg |
English: Boer War memorial. This memorial at the junction of Agricultural Hall Plain and Market Avenue, topped by a statue of "Peace", is to a design of George Wade, and was erected in 1904 to commemorate the end of the Boer War. For close up of plaque see 1131707.
Interestingly, it is detailed on http://www.heritagegateway.org.uk/Gateway/Results_Single.aspx?uid=228741&resourceID=5 as a grade II listed structure dating from 1927 to a design by Sir Edwin Lutyens and the corresponding photo at http://www.heritagegateway.org.uk/Gateway/Results_Single.aspx?uid=228741&resourceID=3 shows the same memorial. But although the grid reference is as shown here, the Lutyens War Memorial is at TG2290908511 in the Memorial Gardens (see 357681). Norwich Council's own list of listed buildings at http://www.norwich.gov.uk/intranet_docs/A-Z/Listed%20Buildings/aListed_Buildings090904.pdf includes the war memorial in Agricultural Hall Plain, suggesting that it is the listing particulars that are incorrect in referring to Lutyens and 1927. |
