English: Boer War Memorial, Saltwell Park. The South African or Boer War was 1899-1902.
The inscription reads: "In Grateful Remembrance of the Gateshead Men who lost their lives in their Country's Service. This Memorial was erected by their fellow Townsmen, October 1905" The roll of honour, as inscribed on the sides of the monument, is listed here http://www.roll-of-honour.com/Durham/GatesheadSaltwellPark.html Saltwell Towers 1581133 can be seen to the left beyond the Primosole Bridge 1597593 |
