Summary

[edit]
Description

Two-third of my way through a 2-week road trip, I left Vancouver and re-entered US for the final stretch back to Los Angeles. And my first stateside stop is the Boeing widebody aircraft assembly plant in Everett, 30 minutes north of Seattle, where I can take a tour (absolutely no photos allowed) and also do planespotting. Dozens of 747-8s and 787s around (plus another 787 not visible - N20904, United Airlines' first 787, in the paint shop).

This is one of four DreamLifters that Boeing acquired for transporting partially assembled 787s for final assembly here in Everett. The DreamLifters were converted by Evergreen Group in Taiwan from passenger 747-400s, and have been modified with the taller tail fin of the 747SP, a wider and taller fuselage, and a tail that swings out for loading/unloading of cargo. This particular example had originally been built in 1992 as 9M-MPA, Malaysia Airlines' first 747-400, and was converted in 2006.
