Português: Famoso por sua atuação na IIª Guerra Mundial, o bombardeiro Boeing B-17G “Fortaleza Voadora” foi empregado pela FAB, nas versões SB-17G e RB-17G, em missões de Busca e Salvamento (SAR), Reconhecimento Aerofotográfico e Transporte.
De acordo com o acordado no Pacto do Rio de Janeiro (1947), treze dessas aeronaves foram destinadas ao Brasil, em 1951. Nesse mesmo ano, foram transferidas cinco SB-17G e uma RB-17G, as quais foram entregues ao Centro de Treinamento de Quadrimotores – CTQ, criado a 24 de janeiro de 1951 e sediado na Base Aérea do Galeão. Após o período inicial de treinamento das equipagens, e a fim de melhor atender aos compromissos internacionais assumidos pelo Brasil, referentes ao serviço de busca e salvamento, o CTQ foi transferido para a Base Aérea do Recife, em 1951.
