Summary

[edit]
Description

c/n 32325. US military serial 44-83684. This was the last operational USAF B-17. Her final use being as a DB-17P drone director aircraft used to direct target drones during missile tests. Her last actual director mission was on 6th August 1959 when she controlled QB-17L ‘44-83727’ to its destruction by a Falcon missile, fired from an F-101 Voodoo. After this the DB-17P was retired to Davis-Monthan, AZ, but she wasn’t there long and soon joined Ed Maloney’s growing collection. She flew in the TV series ’12 O’Clock High’ as ‘23921 / HP-V’ “Piccadilly Lilly” and since then has been on static display, although a restoration to flying condition is currently being funded. Painted as “Piccadilly Lilly” for many years, she now wears different unit markings and serial on each side. On display outside at the Planes of Fame Museum, Chino, California, USA.
