Description
English: A body sherd from the of a Roman mortarium.

The sherd is trapezoidal in plan and gently crescent shaped in profile with a convex outer surface and concave inner surface.

The sherd has a coarse  pink orange fabric which darkens to a brown grey near its outside surface. The fabric has frequent blackstone inclusions and occasional quartz inclusions. The exterior and interior surface are an orange white colour. The interior surface has grit emended into its surface to help with the grinding of material. This grit includes quartz, orange stone and brown stone inclusions all of which are c.1mm by 2.5mm in size. These are spread irregularly across the entire surface.

The sherd is 44.0mm long, 36.5mm wide, 10.3mm thick and weighs 19.52 grams.
