English: Page 14 from the Codex Selden (also known as 'Codex Añute'). Manuscript on coated (deer?) skin. Shelfmark: MS. Arch. Selden. A. 2. Starting at bottom (continuation of p. 13). Band I (left to right). F 7 Rain 'Quetzal Fan-Astronomical Apparatus' was the daughter of M 11 Wind 'Tiger-Torch' and F 4 Grass 'Vase with Flowered Shrub' from the town Observatory. M 5 Water and F 7 Rain have a son and four daughters mentioned in this codex. The son, named 10 Monkey 'Celestial Rain', is born on the day of his name in the year 2 Reed (1339; date and name are linked to the same monkey head). The first daughter was named 13 Wind 'Hill-Ear of Corn'; she married 6 Deer 'Tlaloc-Copal', the first ruler of the Fourth Dynasty of Tilantongo (scene to far right).Band II (right to left). The second daughter, named 11 Wind 'Smoke-Spiderweb', married 8 Eagle 'Tlahuizcalpantecuht li-Celestial Rain', lord of Hill of the Twisted Water. The third daughter was named 9 Wind 'Flint Quechquemitl'; her namesake was the princess who founded the Second Dynasty. But to distinguish them, the surname of 'Xolotl-Jewel' was added. She married 6 Alligator 'Xiuhcoatl', from the city of Skull-Toztli. Band III (left to right). The fourth daughter was named 3 Flint 'Flower-Jewel'; she stayed single or else the scribe did not know whether she had married. On the day 1 Reed of the year 9 Reed (1359), M 10 Monkey 'Celestial Rain' makes an offering of copal; he is dressed as a priest, with the spotted white xicolli. It appears that he is offering a bag of ayate and a copper axe in front of the Xolotl bundle so that he may become the lord of Belching Mountain. He is the eleventh king of the Third Dynasty. Band IV (right to left). At the age of 23, on the day 7 Water of the year 12 Rabbit (1362), M 10 Monkey 'Celestial Rain' marries F 5 Water 'Xolotl-Jewel', daughter of M 4 Deer 'Tiger-Torch' and F 10 Water 'Xolotl-Feather Carpet' from Feather Carpet-Stone Legs. |
