The original house was bought by Sir William Williams, Speaker of the House of Commons in the late 17th century. The house was remodelled in the ‘‘Strawberry Hill’’ Gothic style between 1802 and 1808. The house was then reconstructed between 1830 and 1832 for Sir John Hay Williams in a Castellated Gothic rival style. The architects employed were Joseph Hansom and Edward Welch who extended the house on the south side and added many machicollated towers and turrets Now a Warners Hotel. Part of the castle is used as a popular hotel run by Warners, who are part of the Bourne Leisure Group. Part Art Gallery.
