Animal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 65-100 cm; Weight: 6-31 kg; Identification: The bobcat has a short tail, small ear tufts, and a barred and spotted coat with black or variable shades of brown fur. Its undersides are white, and the tip of the tail is black; Habitat: Chaparral, brush, swamps, forests; Diet: Carnivore: small mammals, birds; Reproduction: After a gestation period of 50 days, the female gives birth to a litter of 1-6 young. The kittens leave the den at five weeks of age and begin hunting with their mother when they are 3-5 months old; Social Structure: Bobcats are solitary; Behavior: While they are mostly terrestrial, bobcats do climb trees if necessary; Status: No special status; Interesting Facts: Bobcats use scent and visual signals such as urine, feces, anal gland secretions, and scratches in the ground to ward off intruders and mark their territory.
