Description
English: Fishing Boat At Yeppoon

BATTERED BY REAKERS

A boisterous south-easterly winand rough seas were responsible for the grounding of thc auxiliary fishing boat Mayflower on the Yeppoon beach on Saturday night.

The Mayflower, with Mr. L. Pearce, Mrs. Pearce and an assistant aboard, arrived at Yeppoon at about 8 p.m. on Saturday and anchored near the mouth of Ross Creek to await sufficient water to enable it to cross the bar. A strong south-easterly was blowing at the time, and gradually freshening it caused the Mayflower to drug her anchors.

The motor was started, but it failed at the critical moment and the boat was caught in the breakers and grounded about 50 yards from the beach.

The services of the Life Saving Club were requisitioned, and Mrs. Pearce was brought ashore. All efforts of the life-savers to refloat the boat proved futile.
