Arctic Thunder is the name of the bi-annual air show at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska. The Air Show is pretty cool with a lot of static and flying exhibitions. Unfortunately this year's show was marred by the crash of a C-17 two days before the show started, killing the 4 person crew. The fate of the air show was in doubt but it with on as a tribute to the C-17 air crew. I was able to attend the dry run held on Friday before the actual weekend air show which is nice since it really cuts down the size of the crowd. Weather-wise the show started off fine, but as with every Friday in this god-awful summer the clouds rolled in shortly after noon and it started to drizzle. It also turned the sky from a nice blue to a heavy, industrial, blah gray. Oh, here's hoping for better luck next time! One of the highlights is watching the Blue Angels - they normally do a full run-through but not this year - instead it was like a pre-game warm-up. However, it was still a blast seeing them perform. |
