Summary

[edit]
Description

Jason Liu, Ph.D., laboratory chief at FDA’s Office of Blood Research and Review, places blood specimens into a centrifuge to isolate blood components. A unit of whole blood can be separated, for example, into platelets and red blood cells. The separated components can be studied separately and can be used for different patients with different needs. FDA is responsible for the safety of our nation’s blood supply and is at the forefront of evaluating and encouraging innovative technologies for protecting it.
