Blois (Loir-et-Cher) Les terrasses de l'évêché. La statue équestre de Jeanne d’Arc provient d’un don du mécène J. Sanford Saltus[1]. Elle est l’œuvre d’Anna V. Hyatt[2], une sculptrice américaine. C'est une réplique de celle inaugurée le 6 décembre 1915 à New York, sur le Riverside Drive, près de la rive de l’Hudson. A cette occasion, J. Sanford Saltus donna lecture d’une dépêche du président Wilson dans laquelle le président des Etats Unis voit en Jeanne d’Arc « une de ces figures idéales de l’Histoire […] En elle, semble s’être incarné le pur enthousiasme, source pour tous, d’héroïsme et de poésie ». Dans un télégramme daté du 13 mai 1920, l’ambassadeur de France à Washington, M. Jusserand, fait part de l’offre des «amis et admirateurs de Jeanne d’Arc, notamment J. Saltus qui […] souhaitent nous offrir une réplique et voudraient qu’elle fût érigée de préférence à Blois». L’œuvre a été solennellement inaugurée le 13 août 1921 en présence de la Légion américaine, du donateur et de l’artiste.
