Description
Español: Monasterio de Santa María la Real de Nájera. Pieza importante de la escultura funeraria románica española, realizada entre los años 1156 y 1158, en piedra arenisca. Representa simbólicamente la muerte de la reina Blanca (1137-1156), hija de García Ramírez de Pamplona después de haber dado a luz a su hijo Alfonso (Alfonso VIII de Castilla). Su amado esposo, Sancho III de Castilla, mandó colocar el epitafio: Aquí yace la noble reina, que mereció llamarse Blanca, por serlo mas que la nivea azucena. A tan raro candor se unían infinitas gracias prontas y obsequiosas, de honestidad y donosura; era la gloria del bello sexo. El rey D. Sancho, hijo del emperador, fue su esposo; con ser tan grande, cifró en ella toda su alabanza. De sobreparto ella murió, dando a luz noble prenda; el Hijo de la Virgen la tenga cabe si en el cielo. En la Era 1194 (año 1156) pasó de esta vida la piadosa reina.
