Title
Blackstone Hotel at 8th Ave. and Pike St., February 21, 1915
Description
This photograph appeared in the Seattle Times on February 21, 1915 with the following caption: "Handsome Fireproof Hotel Added to City's Buildings. Blackstone Hotel. Which was recently completed for S.E. Pierce at Eighth Avenue and Pine Street, is built with solid brick exterior walls, four stories on the western side, three stories and basement on the Eighth Avenue Side. Two more stories will be added in the future. All the interior walls, partitions and floors are made fireproof and soundproof by timbers solidly spiked together, reinforced with steel or by plaster partitions. The rooms will accommodate one hundred guests. Five great skylights furnish direct overhead light. There are two wide outside courts which are being parked with choice shrubs and grass. For the Easter facade the material used is tapestry brick, in shades of violet and rose with trimmings of ivory terra cotta and Tennessee marble. Imported oak is used for the staircase and floors of the entrance and office story. The trim of the upper stories is vertical grained fir, finished in warm tones of gray. The Blackstone will be opened this week."
