Summary
[edit]DescriptionBlackdog Hill - geograph.org.uk - 1474771.jpg |
English: Blackdog Hill A small spur of the Downs lying between Ditchling and Westmeston. The name reputedly derives from the ghost of a headless black dog said to haunt both the footpath and nearby Lewes Road and Underhill Lane. The footpath itself runs in a dead straight line from Ditchling to a point just outside St Martins church in Westmeston which has given rise to the theory that it may be an old corpse way or coffin road from which ghostly black dogs were supposed to protect. Glebe Cottages can be seen in the distance on the right whilst Blackdog Hill House is on the left. |
