English: Black stone Buddha Statue in Bhoomisparsh’ posture near Kawa-Dol (Kawva-Dol) hillocks at Kurisarai village in in Gaya District of Bihar.
The Buddha Statue is around 8ft tall, approximately dating from the 8th-9th centuries. It used to stand in the midst of a collapsed temple, only the columns of which survive. At present it resides inside a newly built concrete structure. This eight-foot statue of Lord Buddha sitting in "Padmasana" in ‘Bhoomisparsh’ (ground-touching) posture was excavated by the ASI. There are small Buddha figurines at the base of the statue. Written on the base of the Buddha statue is: ये धर्मा हेतु प्रभवा हेतुं तेषां तथागतः ह्यवदत्ते षां च यो निरोध एवं वादी महाश्रमण । ‘‘Ye dharmā hetuprabhavā / hetuṃ teṣāṃ tathāgataḥ hyavadat /teṣāṃ ca yo nirodha / evaṃ vādī mahāśramaṇaḥ (Means: Of those things that arise from a cause, The Tathāgata has told the cause, And also what their cessation is: This is the doctrine of the Great Recluse.) |
