Animal characteristics: Head-Body Length: 40-53 cm; Weight: 8.6 kg; Identification: The black spider monkey has a black coat, flesh-colored eye rings, white chin whiskers, and a long tail and legs; Habitat: High forests; Diet: Omnivore: fruit, leaves, spiders, insects; Reproduction: These primates can mate any time of the year. There is usually only one young born after a gestation period of 226-232 days. The baby is weaned when it is 6-10 months old; Social Structure: Groups of spider monkeys form exclusive communities that break into small groups; Behavior: Foraging is done during the early morning hours; Status: No special status; Interesting Facts: Spider monkeys are the most expert climbers of all monkeys.
