Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Black Coppice Quarry. The White Coppice Geology Trail set up by the Lancashire RIGS group. Geological information is taken from the trail booklet written by Steve Suggitt from Edge Hill University. Copies can be obtained from http://www.lancashirerigs.org.uk/publications.htm Large blocks of Fletcher Bank Grit (coarse sandstone) are strewn across the floor of the disused quarry. The rocks here were laid down as river dunes in large, shallow river floodplains and deltas during the Namurian period. At the top of the quarry are finer grained sandstones in thinner beds.
