Title |
Black Burnished Ware pottery sherds (interior) |
||
Description |
English: Three sherds of Roman pottery. Two are decorated rim sherds and one is a plain body sherd. The two rim sherds join together and the breaks are old. Length (when joined together) 78mm, width 111mm and 8mm thick. Weight of both sherds 102.56g. The body sherd is 32mm in length, 39mm wide and 7mm thick. Weight 11.58g. The breaks are old on this sherd. All three sherds are heavily tempered with fine rounded sand quartz and may belong to a single vessel. About 50mm below the slightly everted rim are two incised horizontal lines. The lower of these lines is much deeper then the upper line. Below the horizontal lines the vessel is decorated with a series of oblique and parallel lines in pairs. These pairs of lines are about 25mm apart and may have been applied using a spatula. The rim diameter of the vessel, when complete, would have been about 18cm. |
