English: Black Billed Gull at nest. (Larus bulleri) Maori name Tarapunga

The Black Billed Gull is common both on the coast and inland. Food - Insects and fishes, also larvae by following the plough. Breeding Habits - Shingly riverbeds as in Canterbury, in large colonies. Well made nests of roots and small sticks, lined with grass. Two to three eggs are laid, mostly during the first half of November. Beneficial bird to man. Refer Oliver's "N.Z. Birds".
