[edit]DescriptionBlack-Footed Ferret Release (15545713769).jpg |
Black-footed Ferret Release —an endangered black-footed ferret that was released on private land on Espee Ranch, AZ, USA as part of a collaborative species recovery effort. These ferrets depend on prairie dogs for food, but sylvatic plague threatens many prairie dog colonies in the United States. The USGS is testing an oral sylvatic plague vaccine for prairie dogs, which could potentially help sustain populations of black-footed ferret prey. Photo credit: Tonie Rocke, USGS.
