Summary
[edit]DescriptionBitton Railway Station shortly after closure (geograph 6063329).jpg |
English: Bitton Railway Station shortly after closure Passenger services between Temple Meads & Bath Green Park had finished 2 months earlier (with the closure of the associated Somerset & Dorset Railway) but the line remained open for goods traffic (primarily coal for Bath Gas Works) until July 1971. The station subsequently became the headquarters of the Avon Valley Railway (although initially it was called the Bristol Suburban Railway) which operated its first trains in 1974. The line & station were opened in 1869 by the Midland Railway & its style is typical of rural stations built by that company. |
